What is streaming?

Streaming is a technology in which users can play video and sound files at the same time as receiving them through the Internet. Streaming enables you to playback large video files easily.

Streaming has two types of delivery: on-demand and live broadcasting.

What is delivery bandwidth of streaming?

The speed of contents delivery is denoted in ...bps (bit per second).

To see streaming contents, you need to select contents corresponding to your delivery bandwidth.

When you are connected on telephone lines, you can see contents corresponding to 56k bps modem, ISDN 64k bps, or 128k bps in narrowband depending on the way you are connected.
If you use a broadband connection, such as ADSL cable Internet or optical fiber, you can see contents corresponding to 300k or higher bandwidths.

Generally speaking, the higher the bandwidth, the better the quality of video and sound.

How to see streaming contents

To see streaming contents, you need to install a player corresponding to the type of content.
When you access the streaming contents, the player corresponding to the content type automatically runs and performs them.

You can download these players for free from each provider's download site.

Streaming contents are not playing.

The problem may be due to the following:

->An appropriate player for the content type isn't installed.
->The player or browser isn't the latest version.
->Streaming contents are blocked by Firewalls.
There is a possibility that they are blocked by the firewall set up
in the company/school networks. In this case, you need to seek the
      network administrator's advice.

->Your provider is very crowded with visitors.
->Access to the content is busy.
Wait for a while and try again.

How to see streaming contents through a firewall

The data in streaming is transferred in the protocol of UDP, TCP, or HTTP.
UDP or TCP is the default setting of the player.

Changing the default setting to the HTTP protocol (for viewing a website) enables you to receive the streaming content through a firewall.

How to change a transfer protocol of Windows Media Player

Start Player -> On the "Tool" menu, click "Option"
        -> Choose "Network"
            Under "Protocol", set "Enable HTTP"
Under "Streaming proxy settings", choose "HTTP", then click "Configuration"
Under "Protocol settings", tick "Use proxy settings of the web browser",
            then click "OK"

If none of the above fix the problem, seek the network administrator for advice.

Video and sound are interrupted in streaming.

The problem may be due to the following:

-> Traffic in the network is very busy or your Internet Service Provider's backbone is thin.
->Performance of your PC is inadequate, e.g. CPU or memory is not fast enough and gets overloaded.
In this case, the performance of the player or the machine itself may be decreased.

These problems may be improved by trying the following actions.
      - Close other programs.
      - Restart the player.
      - Restart your computer.
      - Shutdown the computer and restart it.

If the above fails to improve the situation, the connection speed may be too low.
ISDN line or a broadband connection is recommended for efficient streaming contents delivery.

Video is playing but no sound.

The settings of your computer may be the cause. Check if;

- your computer is equipped with a speaker.
- the speaker is an external one, and is switched on and connected properly.
- the sound is not set to "Mute".
